REPORT OF THE RESOLUTION COMMITTEE
Submitted to the
20th National Convention-2010 of the United Bassa Association in the Americas
Whereas the United Bassa Organization in the Americas (UNIBOA) met in the city of Trenton, New Jersey at its 20th National Convention from Friday, May 28 to Monday, May 31, 2010 under the theme “Bea-ah vohn blojay” (Let’s labor for the homeland).
Whereas the United Bassa Association in the Americas is a non-political, non sectarian 501(c) organization of Liberians who desire to be active participants in the development of their homeland through specific development projects aimed at improving the quality of education health care and community development;
Whereas the association identifies resources to assist in the development of postwar Liberia, through various fundraising programs to promote peace, unity progress and social awareness among Liberians in the Americas;
Whereas the convention served as a forum for the exchange of ideas and self evaluation in order to move forward to building a sustainable vibrant organization to meet the needs and objectives of its members and benefactors; and
Whereas members organizations, re-committed their ideas and resources to the growth and objectives of the organizations through the reporting of progress, achievements, challenges and prospects;
Do hereby resolve:
- That the leadership establishes a National Commission comprising representatives of all member organizations to review and redefine the mission, vision, and bylaws and to make recommendations by the next Board meeting for possible constitutional amendments.
- That the national leadership engages in visitation to member organizations at least once a year and collaborates to implement a fundraising activity as additional source of income generation outside the national convention.
- That in the wake of inactivity of some chapters, that all former presidents, former chairman of the board, and other former chapter leaders be constituted as a Council of Elders and will assist the national administration to reactivate and resolve grievances that might arise in those member organizations. The Council of Elders could also serve as good-will ambassadors to reach out to county associations with the view of consolidating our development efforts in the Bassa regions.
- That the national organization will engage member organizations in prioritizing current projects and programs;
- That is consideration of moving forward in building UNIBOA as a sustainable vibrant 501(c)organization in the U.S., efforts will be made to:
- Engage grant writing and professional fundraising services;
- Explore the possibility of pilot project to obtain a hall and/or other real estate options;
- Establish strong financial policies and procedures including bringing all local chapters under group exemptions;
- That the organization creates awareness; engages in projects and programs aimed at creating awareness, improving communication and retaining cultural traditional heritage and values.
That in consideration of increasing active membership in UNIBOA, that the organization:
- Launch a national membership drive within the next twelve months to increase current membership; and appoint a national chairperson on recruitment, membership and mobilization;
- Engage in outreach efforts by use of technology including full utilization of our website, text messaging, face book and twitter,;
- Develop visual materials including video documentaries of major events, picture books and calendars, as motivational tools to attract passive and new members;
- Establish criteria and levels for member recognition during national convention;
- That as a way of serving the communities, that member organizations be encouraged to reach out and network with other organization such as alumni associations, other ethnic organizations, and Liberian communities associations; that UNIBOA develops a national directory of its membership and each members organization will submit within the next 90 days, to the national administration, information to be included in the directory;
- That in recognition of the expansion of the role and responsibility of the national queen, the national queen will be involve in mobilizing other youths and young adults to participate in the programs and projects of the organization; and will assist in organizing youth activities such as community service programs.
