National President of UNIBOA Visit to Liberia April 23 to May 12, 2011
During his family visit to Liberia, President Dousuah met with high-ranking government officials and community leaders on behalf of the United Bassa Organization in the America (UNIBOA) and donated a consignment of 100 pieces of Hospital Patient’s Gowns to 3 hospitals in Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties. Mr. Dousuah also follow-up on the Fair Ground land, the market building and home office status.
Mr. Alfred M. Dousuah visit to Liberia was highlighted by his visit to Margibi and Grand Bassa counties. According to press reports, President Dousuah donated consignment of patient hospital gowns to 3 hospitals in Margibi and Grand Bassa counties. Hon. Clarice Jah, Senior Senator of Margibi County joined President Dousuah on his trip to the county.
The hospitals that benefited from the donations are the Duside Hospital in Harbel, Firestone, the Mike M. Baydoun Health Center in Marshall City, Margibi County and the Government Hospital in Lower Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
Presenting the donations to the respective administrators of the health centers, the national president of UNIBOA, Mr. Alfred Dousuah informed them that the patient gowns were UNIBOA’s own way of identifying with the ‘vulnerable citizens’ of post war Liberia. Dr. Lyndon Mabande, MD, DLSHTM, Chief Medical Officer received the 30 patient gowns on behalf on the Duside Hospital. Dr. Mabande expressed his gratitude to President Dousuah and the United States based, United Bassa Organization for the much needed donation.
Dr. Mabande further stated, that the Duside Hospital serves as the regional medical center for not only Firestone and Margibi but for the surrounding counties including Nimba, Bong and Grand Bassa. He lauded the goodwill of the members of UNIBOA for the organization continues assistance to Liberians over the years.
At the Mike M. Baydoun Health Center, Hon. Kona McCauley, City Mayor of Marshall City and Mrs. Rebecca Bestman, the Director of the center received 20 patient hospital gowns donated to the center. Mayor McCauley and Dir. Bestman expressed their gratitude to President Dousuah and the UNIBOA delegation. They also thanked Hon. Clarice Jah for her relationship with the United States based Bassa organization in the interest of the people of the City of Marshall.
Mayor McCauley made a special appeal on behalf of the center to the leader of UNIBOA for a generator for the center. According to Mayor McCauley, the center has been without electricity since the civil war. In reply, Mr. Dousuah assured Mayor McCauley that his appeal would be delivered to the leadership of his organization with special emphasis. Senator Jah and President Dousuah took a guarded tour of the center during the visit.
On his second leg, President Dousuah donated 50 patient hospital gowns to the Government Hospital in Lower Buchanan. Mr. Stephen B. Wannah, the hospital’s administrator received the consignment of donation.
Among the hospital staff at the presentation were Mr. Momo M. J. Kollie, Nursing Supervisor, and Ms. Beatrice Nyomo, Pediatric Ward supervisor. Ms. Nyomo is a beneficiary of the UNIBOA Nursing Scholarship Program. She was amongst the 5 graduates from the Mother Pattern College of Health and Sciences in Monrovia.
While in Lower Buchanan, the UNIBOA Leader met with Hon. Julia Duncan-Cassell, Superintendent of Grand Bassa County. According to President Dousuah, his discussion with Superintendent Duncan-Cassell centered on exploring meaningful ways to work together on our shared mission to better assist the people of Grand Bassa County and the Bassa people in the Diaspora.
He further stated that their discussion touched on the erosion contribution, the nursing students, and the ongoing market building. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Dousuah extended invitation to superintendent Duncan-Cassell to attend the 2011 national convention of UNIBOA in Maryland, USA.
Following his visit with Superintendent Cassell, President Dousuah accompanied by Mr. David Blay, Chief Surveyor of the County visited the Fair Ground where Mr. Dousuah toured the 2 acres of land owns by UNIBOA. Meanwhile, half of the 2-acres of land has been built on by others unknown to the leadership of UNIBOA. Following the tour of the land, Surveyor Blay stated that, of the 2 acres, only an acre was presently available to UNIBOA. He advised that UNIBOA plants cornerstones to identify the remaining piece of land available to the organization.
President Dousuah also visited the Mission for Orphans, Disabled and Unaccompanied Children (MODUC) in Lower Hardlandsville, Grand Bassa County. MODUC is among the recipients of UNIBOA funding. At the center, the UNIBOA delegate met with Mrs. Beh the Administrator of the MODUC and members of the staff. President Dousuah met with the 43 children, 18 boys and 25 girls ranging from 7-month old to 17 years old.
The President expressed great satisfaction and praised Mrs. Beh for what he termed as, “her loving care exemplified through the most vulnerable, the orphans”. In her response, Mrs. Beh praised President Dousuah and UNIBOA for their constant support to the mission and appealed for the organization continues support. Mr. Dousuah toured the facility and had some cheerful moment with the children.
President Dousuah also visited the construction site of the market building in Lower Hardlandsville. At the site, he charted with some marketers and the men working on the building.
In addition to the county visits, President Dousuah visited with some high-ranking legislators. Among those he met with are: Hon. Gbezohngar Finley, Senior Senator of Grand Bassa, Hon. Clarice Jah, Senior Senator of Margibi and Hon. George Moore, Junior Senator of Rivercess counties. President Dousuah also met with Hon. Gabriel B. Smith, Rep of District No. 4, Hon. J. Byron Browne, Rep of Districts No. 3 and a brief encounter with Hon. Hodges, Rep of District No. 2 of Grand Bassa County respectively.
Meanwhile, plan to meet with other legislators and county leaders from Rivercess, Montserrado and Margibi was unsuccessful due to conflict in scheduling.
President Dousuah describes his meeting with legislators and county leaders as “fruitful and meaningful in cementing our working relationship and solidified our collaborative effort to work hard in the best interest and benefit of the Bassa people in the Diaspora and the Republic of Liberia”. According to President Dousuah, UNIBOA as a non-profit humanitarian organization recognizes the need to be active participants in the reconstruction and development in the country. Accompanying Mr. Dousuah on his trips to Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties, were Mr. Toman T. Gboyah, Chairman of the Home Affairs committee, and Mr. James Tokpa Whia, the National Financial Secretary of UNIBOA and Mrs. Tupee Barclay.
