Bassa hosts 3rd Dumboy Conference

Grand Bassa Citizens residing in Liberia and other parts of the globe are expected to gather in the port city of Buchanan for their” Annual Dumboy Conference” which takes place in December every year. The event, described as the brain child of the current Superintendent of the County, Julia Duncan Casseell, officially begun two years ago and is aimed at bring cross section of Bassa Citizens together both at home and in the Diaspora for the sole purpose of unifying the people through their traditional food “Dumboy”, which they supposed is the symbol of peace, unity and harmony.

This year’s event will commence on Friday, December 3, 2010 and is expected to end on Saturday in the port City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County at the Fair Ground. The program will also be graced by Government officials including the vice president of the Republic of Liberia, Joseph Nyumah Boakai who will serve as the keynote speaker.

According to Superintendent Cassell, the gathering will afford Bassa citizens to show case the county, including their way of life, customs, and traditions, and that during the conference, she revealed further that farmers will bring their products from the interior of the county to be sold at the conference.

She said varieties of Dumboy meal including cassavaDumboy, eddo dumbly, plantain dumbly among others will be sold during the meeting and most importantly, she disclosed, the occasion will also be marked by ponds and pageantry, something she said will help erase the memories and restore peace and stability among Bassa citizens.

Madam Cassel also told journalists that during the conference, there will be a fund raising rally which is aimed at strengthening the county’s educational fund drive to support students hailing from the county attending various universities across the country.
