PRESS RELEASE
Uniboa to build Youth Center in Grand Bassa County
Maryland, USA – November 20, 2006. The President of UNIBOA, Mr. Joseph Sinyan, has announced that the United Bassa Organization in the USA is to build a multipurpose youth center in Lower Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. According to Mr. Sinyan, the Center will be built on the old Fair Ground on 2 acres of land that was donated through the generosity of the Superintendent and officials of Buchanan City. Uniboa has already received a certificate of commitment from the county officials to guarantee their offer of the parcel of land to the organization for the construction of the Youth Center that will benefit the general populace of the city and county as a whole. Uniboa promises to start construction soon, when all paper works have been finalized. When finished, this project will be first of its kind and the beginning of Uniboa’s other commitments to the Bassa counties.
The Youth Center Project, according to Uniboa, is aimed to helping the people of Bassa and also its contribution to the reconstruction and development of the county. Buchanan City is chosen for this project, as the President puts it, “the gateway of the Bassa counties”.
Besides the Youth Center, Uniboa is about to launch a Nursing Scholarship Program for nursing students to study at Mother Pattern College of Health Cares (Stella Maris Polytechnic Institute) in Monrovia. Currently, nine candidates have been declared eligible to participate in the program by passing the school’s placement tests. The scholarship Program carries 100% tuition and fees plus monthly cost of living stipend for each student when started.
The United Bassa Organization in America continues to enjoy its status as a legal entity which was duly incorporated in the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.) in May 1992 and continues to be in good standing with its status as a nonprofit, nonpolitical, and humanitarian organization in the United States.
Though, the Youth Center will be the biggest long-term project for Uniboa in Liberia, but in the past the organization has made significant contributions to Grand Bassa and Rivercess counties when US$10,00.00 was donated to nine schools. Also donations in money were given to three orphanages in Grand Bassa County.
Another evidence of Uniboa’s humanitarian initiatives is the Buduburam Liberian Refugee Camp (Ghana) Water Project financed by Uniboa. This project which has since been completed is a big help in alleviating the water problem in the refugee camp. Uniboa is very proud of the United Bassa Refugee Association (UBRA) of the Buduburam Refugee Settlement and its leadership for spear heading this humanitarian project.
